FRIENDS OF ST. BASIL

Re: Year of St. Paul Pilgrimage at St. Basil's Church – June 28, 2009

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

As you know, last year the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed a special year in honor of the 2000th birthday of St. Paul the Apostle. The Year of St. Paul began with Vespers on the eve of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, on June 28, 2008. The Year is coming to a close on June 29, 2009, on the Feast Day of these two great Apostles of Christ.

To mark the closing of the Year of St. Paul, St. Basil's parish will be celebrating a PAULINE PILGRIMAGE on the eve the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, Sunday, June 28. Besides the usual Divine Liturgy at 10:00am (followed by refreshments), a Prayer Service (Moleben) to Saints Peter and Paul will be offered at 12 Noon. This service will include the Sacrament of the Holy Unction (Anointing) of the Sick (for Catholics properly prepared, usually by Confession). St. Basil's is a designated pilgrimage site (by decree of our Bishop, His Grace Gerald Dino), to which is attached special indulgence (plenary, under the usual conditions; partial otherwise) granted by His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, to persons who make a pilgrimage during the Year of St. Paul.

Besides being great teachers and holy martyrs, the Apostles Peter and Paul were graced with the gift of healing from God. Scripture tells us that handkerchiefs and aprons touched by St. Paul when applied to the sick, conveyed healing from God. The same happened when St. Peter's mere shadow was cast upon the sick who were lined up on the street! Join in our prayers to these divinely chosen apostles.

Join us as we honor the great "Apostle to the Gentiles", Paul, the one Christ Himself called the "Chosen Vessel".

You are invited to send in your prayer list (send via email: pastor@stbasil.org ) which will be placed at the icon of St. Paul the Apostle in St. Basil's church, especially at the Vespers on Saturday, June 27, the Matins, Divine Liturgy and Moleben on Sunday, June 28, and at the feast day Divine Liturgy on Monday, June 29 (at 11:30am).

Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, intercede for us with God!
Sincerely in Christ,

Rev. Fr. Anthony Hernandez, Pastor
