Farewell Cory Aquino

Hello groupmates!

Salamat brod Prinz sa sharing mo!

Let us pray for Mrs. Corazon Aquino's soul. She had sacrificed much for our country. She was a leader who constantly sought to help Filipinos even after her term as a president. May our current and future leaders look up to her Christian example.

When I was a kid, I already had a great admiration for her and Ninoy's contributions to our country What made them very special was her humble way of doing it. It has been told that she never dreamt of becoming a president. Surely, she had recognized that her humble 'yes' to run for presidency meant her submission to God's plan for the sake of our nation's liberation from dictatorship. As Mary's own Fiat iniatiated her participation in the Suffering Servant's role, so also did Mrs. Aquino's acceptance of her role, to challenge Marcos' dictatorial regime and to lead a newly re-democratized country, laid on her shoulder the responsibility that her husband had earlier assumed. It was the responsibility of being in the forefront of the Filipino's battle for freedom from tyrants and corrupt leaders. Probably she had asked herself if she could be as effective as her Ninoy. But things continued to unfold. Her simple 'yes' had paved the way for our Lady's action that culminated in the Edsa People Power, thus restoring the Philippines' democratic government.

What had been the driving force for our President to accomplish such amazing feat was not difficult to find out. In years, Cory had frequently been seen in prayer rallies. In these activities we have witnessed how deep her prayer life was and where she was able to draw her strength from.

Even after her presidency, she still involved herself in national matters by being a model for the ordinary citizens. She was active as a member of non-government organizations. She had lived a normal life and had never aspired to regain political powers again, yet it was deeply integrated with her Catholic Faith. She is known as a Marian, someone who has a great devotion to our Mother Mary. And, as I have heard from Radio Veritas, even in sickness, she continually asked people to pray for the Filipinos. When she died, it was said that it was on the Hour of Great Mercy at 3 o'clock.

May her memories continue to live on in our hearts. May she continue to inspire us to do the same for others and to live a life rooted in our Catholic Faith.

I pray to the Lord that the Eternal Light will shine upon you Mrs. Corazon Aquino!

Eric
